Leslie Anderson

Jan 3-Feb 1, 2011, City Center

leslie Anderson's Artwork Leslie Anderson Artwork

Leslie Anderson is a wife, mom, friend, painter, poet, lover of laughter and learning and all things outdoors.  She and her high school sweetheart, Bob, have lived in Idaho for 35 years and divide their time between Salmon and Hailey, Idaho.  Their daughter, Amy, is an architect and lives in the Wood River Valley.  For the past 6 years, Leslie has been the Director of The Outer Court Gallery in Ketchum.

An art major at UT Austin, she also took advantage of numerous painting workshops across the country.  She works primarily in watercolor and acrylics.  Recently she has been experimenting with a more mixed-media approach.

The subject of her latest body of work is one she has revisited over the years:  Native American objects.  These range from headdresses to moccasins to shields and other embellished articles.  Taking her inspiration from visits to Tribal Centers, museums and Native American gatherings, her pieces combine both historic and whimsical elements.

“What initially attracted me to this subject was the utilitarian beauty of the artwork produced with limited resources and often under difficult circumstances.  What keeps drawing me back is the challenge of depicting these pieces with watercolor on paper.  Always stimulating my creativity and stretching my technical skill!”
